ADVANCED BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT PRACTITIONER

Cherie Apers,
BA (Psych), MEdPsych, MAPS

With more than 20 years experience with Autistic and ADHD (AuDHD) individuals, Cherie can assist families to grow an inclusive understanding of their child, and assist children and adults on the spectrum to navigate some of the challenges faced living in a neurotypical geared society.

Cherie has a Masters of Educational Psychology and has experience working with adolescents within the school setting. She understands some of the complexities that come with navigating the education system, and can assist both children and parent’s with challenges they may be facing in school.

A Certified Facilitator of LEGO® Based Therapy, Cherie works with small groups of children to build social skills, promote self-discovery, problem-solving, and build resilience.

As an Advanced Behaviour Support Practitioner, she also has experience working with a range of disabilities and behaviours of concern.

Previously managing a team of 40+ positive behaviour support practitioners, Cherie also has a wealth of experience for core and proficient behaviour support practitioners to learn from to meet their supervision requirements with the NDIS Capability Framework.

Laura Burrows

Laura is a compassionate and skilled psychologist who brings warmth and empathy to every session. She has extensive experience working with individuals across a broad age range, from children as young as 7 to older adults. Her approach is deeply person-centered, ensuring that her clients feel heard, understood, and supported.

Laura is well-versed in evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She effectively tailors these approaches to meet the unique needs of her clients, helping them develop coping strategies, enhance emotional resilience, and navigate life’s challenges. Her dedication to ethical practice ensures that all interventions are guided by her clients' goals and values.

Laura takes pride in providing accessible, quality care to those navigating mental health difficulties.

Known for her warm and kind demeanor, Laura creates a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their concerns and work toward meaningful change. Whether helping a child manage anxiety, supporting a young adult through life transitions, or assisting an older individual with emotional well-being, Laura's adaptable and compassionate approach fosters growth and healing for people at every stage of life.

Alana Guthrie

Alana offers empathetic and person-centred psychological support and assessments (Autism and ADHD) to clients aged 7 and up, with a particular passion for working with older adults. She recognises that later stages of life can bring unique and complex challenges—such as changes in health, identity, relationships, loss, or transitions in living arrangements—and is committed to helping clients navigate these with dignity, clarity, and confidence.

Alana creates a safe, welcoming, and non-judgemental therapeutic space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. She takes the time to understand each individual’s values, strengths, and goals, working collaboratively to support meaningful change. Her approach is grounded in evidence-based practices, primarily drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), tailoring her interventions to suit the needs and preferences of each person.

Alana works with clients experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, grief, relationship concerns, and stress related to physical health or major life transitions. Whether someone is seeking support for a current issue or simply wishes to build emotional resilience, Alana is dedicated to walking alongside them with compassion and care.

Joan

If you've ever called or visited our practice, chances are you've already experienced the warmth and care of Joan, one of our wonderful receptionists. With her gentle nature and helpful attitude, Joan is often the first smiling face clients see and the reassuring voice on the phone.

Joan goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and supported. Whether she’s helping to organise appointments, answering questions, or coordinating group and individual sessions, Joan ensures everything runs smoothly behind the scenes—so clients and clinicians can focus on what matters most.

Her calm and caring presence is a vital part of the team, and we’re so grateful for the way she helps create a safe and welcoming environment for all who walk through our doors.

Emerald

Emerald is one of the friendly faces you’ll meet when you visit our practice on a Wednesday. As part of our welcoming reception team, Emerald brings a calm, caring, and gentle approach to everything she does. Her supportive nature helps clients feel at ease from the moment they walk through the door.

Behind the scenes, Emerald plays a key role in keeping things running smoothly—helping to organise individual and group sessions, answering enquiries, and making sure everyone feels informed and supported.

Studying Psychology herself, Emerald brings a strong understanding of the importance of mental health and a genuine passion for supporting others on their wellbeing journey.

With a helpful attitude and a warm smile, Emerald creates a positive first impression and helps make our space feel safe, respectful, and inclusive for all. We’re lucky to have her as part of our team!
