The Therapy Experience
What Therapy is Like
By Jasper Wilce
Mental health is a reflection of our experiences, relationships, aspirations and obstacles. Even with all the motivation in the world, not knowing how to direct your energy can make mental health care feel paralysing.
Therapy provides a comfortable environment to explore this maze with the guidance of a professional. You may work best with words and conversation, or prefer to focus on gaining knowledge and taking action. Whatever the case, a therapist will consider your preferences and try to provide treatment suited to you.
Once the therapist has heard what you have to say, they can teach relevant skills, knowledge, and applications. Next, goals may be set. Setting clear, achievable goals creates a direction to work towards. Goals could be as simple as creating a routine or connecting with a friend. A therapist can help you figure out where and how to direct your energy to create positive, meaningful changes.
The therapy process is not a scary as it may seem. A good therapist will match your pace and work with you, not on you. If you are curious, don’t hesitate to contact us and learn more about what we have to offer at Life Minded Psychology.
